Call for entries for IYL 2015 Film Festival at the IYL 2015 Closing Ceremony

The International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies 2015 (IYL 2015) will be brought to an official close with a ceremony to be held over three days from 4-6 February 2016 in the city of Mérida, Mexico. As a parallel event of the programme, we are glad to announce the organization of the IYL 2015 Film Festival to showcase videos/documentaries developed to celebrate the IYL 2015. A call for entries is open to select films for the festival.

More than 700 International Year of Light events in France so far

The International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies 2015 (IYL 2015) has been an immense success and a great popular celebration of light in France. Until the end of October, more than 700 events have been organized all around the country where thousands of participants have learnt about how important are photonics technologies to tackle global issues for our modern society.

Inkjet Hologram Printing Now Possible

Vivid holographic images and text can now be produced by means of an ordinary inkjet printer. This new method, developed by a team of scientists from ITMO University, is expected to significantly reduce the cost and time needed to create the so-called rainbow holograms, commonly used for security purposes - to protect valuable items, such as credit cards and paper currency, from piracy and falsification. The results of the study were published in Advanced Functional Materials scientific journal on November 17.
